Is Miracle A True Test ?
by Mohammad Mogni Choudhury

People are alwys looking for miracles.Over the centuries many different people have performed miracles. Some miracles are even being performed now.But is miracle a true test of the Genuineness of a person or proof of validity of a religion?

Do you think all religions are true? They all contradict each other. So they all cant be right. If one is right then others have to be wrong. We know that Moses performed miracles when he and his followers escaped from Egypt through the Red sea. We know Jesus performed miracles. Muslims know that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) performed miracles.Muslims also accept the miracles performed by Moses and Jesus.(because those have been confirmed in the Quran.

But since Christians and Jews dont recognise Islam or Muhammad (peace be upon him) as a true prophet, they have difficulty accepting anything about Islam or Muhammad.I think that is the reason for people in the west not knowing much about the prophet's miracles or even much about his life.

But can we set aside our differences for now and look at things with open mind? We know lot of hindu saints or gurus also claim to have performed miracles.same must be the case with the Buddhists and members of other religious groups. So whats going on here?

If miracle was a real test, then all these people's miracle performance would have to be accepted as the validity of their respective religions. And then there would be a problem. Because if say mircale performed by a Christian saint proves that Christianity is a true religion, then the same has to be accepted for the case of a Hindu miracle worker.(and for a muslim or follower of whatever religion).

So one has to accept that both Christianity and Hinduism (and any other religion) are true. But how can that be? There are a lot of fundamental differences between these religions. So should we not keep these miracles separate from presenting them as proofs to our own religions?

A huge industry has grown up from these miracle works. Some individuals claim to be psychic, some can 'see the future' some can 'cure'diseases and so on.Some even claim to be able to communicate with the dead.A lot of these people have been exposed to be frauds and charlatans. But that has not stopped new ones coming up with their own brand of miracles.

Now I will mention some of the miracles performed by Prophet Muhammad(pbh). But remeber we muslims never present these miracles as proof of Muhammad(pbh)'s prophethood.I am just presenting them here to make you aware that he did perform some miracles.

One should also note that before recieving revelation from The God, Muhammad was known to his countrymen as 'AlAmin' or the trustworthy. When he recieved message from The God and started preaching his message, some accepted his message and some did not. But even the ones not accepting his message did not accuse him of not telling the truth. Apart from several 'small'miracles, I think one of the biggest miracles that was performed by any human being was that of Prophet Muhammad's (pbh)night journey to Jerusalem and beyond. On that night he went to meet the almighty God and on the way visited heaven and hell and experienced so many other things.

Did you also know that the Prophet had no shadow(meaning he was made of light)? When he would be on the road, cloud would move with him to alwys protect him from hot sun.
