The Difference Between The Muslim Qu'ran And Hadith What Is It?
By Dale Pindling

The Qu’ran is the chief and most holy book of the Islam faith. The Qu’ran is filled with revelations from God which were supposedly given to the Muslim prophet Muhammad. During the revelations, Muhammad would say aloud revelation and his scribes would write down the words or memorize them. For many years the Qu’ran was passed down orally but twenty years after Muhammad’s death the separate parts were brought together to form the complete collection into the Qu’ran.

The Qu’ran is filled with messages of encouragement ,parables and stories which are written partly in prose and verse. These revelations tell the world of the one God, his teachings and impending judgment which will take place at the end of time. The words in the Qu’ran are believed to be directly from God and offer individuals salvation if they are to abide by its precepts.

The Hadith is a number of traditions that recount the sayings and adventures of Mohammad specifically. The Hadith is similar to the Christian gospels in that it is a third person account of the activities of the prophet Mohammad and his followers. Unlike the Qu’ran it is a number of individuals telling that which they had supposedly heard or seen of the prophet Mohammad. The traditions were passed down orally and after a number of years these reports of Mohammad’s words and deeds were then brought together and written down as a coherent collection

The Hadith is a complement to the Qu’ran. The Qu’ran supplies the laws and ideal way of life that a Muslim should fall in accordance with. However, there are certain issues within life that the Qu’ran does not relate to. In these situations, Muslims are then encouraged to look to the Hadith to figure out their best course of action.

For Muslims, if the Qu’ran does not supply the answer, they can look to the actions of prophet in the Hadith and thereby decipher what they should do in particular situations. Also, the Hadith can be used to help Muslims better understand certain text in Qu’ran. At times in the Hadith, Muhammad and his companions discuss the revelations, making text interpretations clearer.
