For Christians, Jews and people of other beliefs, it may be
surprising to know that as part of their religious teachings,
Muslims highly honor both Jesus and Mary. This article highlights
some of the facts about those beliefs based on the Quranic.
* Muslims believe that numerous prophets were
sent to mankind and Jesus was one of those prophets, just
as prophet Muhammad was a prophet.
* Muslims therefore do not beleive in Jesus
as "son of God". This is contrary to the foundation
of Islam, which strictly forbids associtaing any one with
God's powers and attributes.
* Per Islamic beliefs, Jesus was therefore
only a human being who was raised by God (Allah) and will
return him back to this earth in this life. Jesus will then
die as a regular human being.
* Muslims believe that Bible was revealed
on Prophet Jesus. However, with time, as that book was changed,
God (Allah) revealed His last book, the Quran on the last
prophet, Prophet Muhammad.
* God revealed Quran on prophet Muhammad over
a period that spanned 23 years.
* Muslims too believe in Mary (or Maryam)
as the Virgin mother of Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him).
* There is one entire chapter in the Quran
("Chapter of Mary") that explains the birth of Jesus,
his family, etc. in complete detail.
* Muslims do not believe in the crucifixion
of Jesus. They believe that although he was put on the cross
but was never crucified. Instead, God raised him to the heavens
and someone else instead was crucified in his place. These
teachings and the fully story are narrated in the Quran.
* Muslims believe that Jesus will come back
to earth, unite the Christians and the Muslims and will kill
the anti-Christ.
* The Quran explains that although Jesus was
a normal human being, he did possess special powers from God
(Allah) including raising the dead and curing diseases.
